When: You’ll receive the Tasso kit at 3 months (for a randomly selected group) and 24 months (for all participants). 

Where: You’ll collect the sample at home, no clinic visit needed. 

How:  

1. Stick it on your arm – The device uses a soft adhesive to stay in place. 
2. Press the button – A tiny lancet gently opens the skin and creates a light vacuum to draw blood. 
3. Wait 5 minutes – Blood from small vessels under your skin flows into a small tube. 
4. Peel it off and pack it up – Remove the device, seal the sample, and drop it in the prepaid mailer. 

• The Tasso device is FDA-registered and designed for tests like cholesterol, inflammation, and kidney function.
• It’s painless, sterile, and single use.
• Minor bruising or a small mark may occur but typically fades quickly.
• If you’re unable or unwilling to use the Tasso device, your study team will discuss alternative options with you.

Many communities have supervised safe medical waste disposal and collection site options such as hospitals, clinics, pharmacies, health departments, police and fire stations.   

If your county allows a home disposal option,  

1. Place needles, syringes with needles, lancets, and other sharp objects into a hard-plastic or metal container with a screw-on top or other tightly fitting lid (i.e., an empty liquid-detergent bottle or paint can).  
2. Before the container is full all the way to the top, put on the top or lid and tape it on with heavy-duty tape.  
3. Put the container in the center of your trash when you throw it out.  
4. Do not put needles and other sharp objects in any container you plan to recycle.  
5. Do not use clear-plastic or glass containers.  
6. Do not throw loose or unprotected needles into your garbage.
